Day 10 Focus: Forgiveness
It’s 3 AM.
I have had the dream again.
I am a warrior with others fighting the darkness alongside the fairies. (I really loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy).
This dream is so real. My body feels like it has been through a battle. My heart is still beating so fast and why is my face scratched?
The darkness descends, envelops and permeates. I feel alone. I began to obsess over all the wrongs (innocent children and adults killed at Sandy Hook, Hurricane Sandy, Malala, the rape/murdered victim in India, the 500+ murders in the U.S.A. since Sandy Hook, my once strong Father descending to death slowly, day by day, as he lives with me). So easy to slide into the darkness of anger, fear and anxiety. For me, much more difficult to forgive and stay in the light.
I want to blame someone, something or blame God. Lash out with my anger. Maybe that’s why I am fighting battles in my dreams. On this next to the last day of this 12 Days series, I focus on forgiveness.
Today, I am taking a “mental health” day, a self-care day and a connection day. The more I self-heal, the more light I feel. The more light I feel, the easier it is to forgive.
Forgiving God, forgiving myself and forgiving the human race for being who we are, human.
Forgiveness is not acceptance of a wrong. All the above was WRONG. Forgiveness doesn’t justify or minimize the wrong. Forgiveness doesn’t deny the perpetrator’s responsibility for hurting you. You can forgive yourself and forgive the person responsible without excusing the act. Forgiveness brings a peace that helps you go on with your life.
Whoever and whatever has hurt you, I wish you a day of forgiveness. I wish you a day to reconnect with your compassion, your understanding and your love, to forgive yourself as well as others. “Let go and Let God” is a great saying.
Your body and mind will thank you with less anxiety, less stress and lower blood pressure.
Your Courageous Challenge:
Think of someone you need to forgive. How can you let go of your “victim” mentality? Write a letter of forgiveness to you, the person and to your higher power.
