Sometimes I think the stairway to hell is dieting, not heaven. Dieting is a revolving stairway, an endless stairway of choices with the slim down shakes, green smoothies, virgin diets, hormones, Raw Food, Vegan, Paleo, Jenny Craig, DASH, Weight Watchers, Biggest Loser, Mediterranean, Flexitarian, etc., to name a few of the top selling diets.
With all the 100s of diets, why don’t we lose weight?
Three simple words: Fat, Sugar, Salt
In that order.
Why we need to lose weight is a simple issue. Losing weight is a more complex issue.
Have you noticed that any diet you might follow helps you initially to lose weight and then the weight comes back on? Why is that? In the book, Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us by Michael Moss, we learn the “Why”. Read this book! It’s up there with Diet for a Small Planet (the 20 year old classic) by Frances Moore Lappe.
Everything you put into your mouth has the ability to give you better health or cause your body harm. Learning when to say yes and when to say no to what goes in our body is imperative. We are bombarded with information every day, YES, this diet, NO, this diet. We need to become diet scientists. We need to shift through all the research and experiment. Finding the right information for your body, is the key. Only YOU can decide what is right for your body. In ZENgevity, we call this an intuitive process of the mind, body and spirit. We will explore more about this intuitive process next time.
How many of these diets have you tried? Be honest! If dieting has not worked for you, get a notebook specifically for the next few blogs on DIET. Take some notes, write your answers to the Courageous Challenges. YOU might make a change!
